چکیده
مباحث فلسفه زبان (زبانشناسی فلسفی) را زیر دو عنوان کلی معناشناسی فلسفی[1] و کارکردشناسی فلسفی[2] میتوان دسته بندی کرد. اولی دارای دو بخش عمده نظریه معنا[3] (شامل بحث‌های مربوط به ماهیت معنا، معناداری، هم معنایی، تحلیلیت، و استلزام) و نظریه ارجاع[4] (شامل بحث‌های مربوط به نامگذاری، صدق، دلالت، دامنه مصادیق و مقادیر متغیرها) و دومی نیز به دو بخش نظریه افعال گفتاری و نظریه مکالمه قابل تفکیک است. ویلیام جی لایکان، نویسنده مقاله، با کمی تفاوت این طبقه بندی را میپذیرد. او معتقد است[5] که غایت اصلی فلسفه زبان، نظریه معنا می‌باشد؛ اما چهار هدف فرعی و تبعی این فلسفه عبارتند از: نظریه ارجاع - که آنرا نباید با نظریه ارجاعی[6] (موضوع مقاله حاضر، یکی از نظریه‌های معنا) اشتباه کرد، نظریه صدق[7]، کارکردشناسی فلسفی و فلسفه زبانشناسی[8] - که آنرا نباید با فلسفه زبانی[9] اشتباه کرد.

Translator's introduction: Philosophy of language (philosophical linguistics) can be categorized in two main titles: philosophical semantics and philosophical pragmatics. the former contains tow theories: theory of meaning (consisting of nature of meaning, significance, synonymous, analyticity, entailment) and theory of reference (consisting of naming, truth, denotation, extension, values of variables ) latter contains tow theories: theory of speech - acts and theory of conversation. William G. Lycan accepts nearly mentioned subjects above, he holds that contemporary philosophy of language centers on the theory of meaning but also includes the theory of reference, the theory of truth , philosophical pragmatics, and the philosophy of linguistics.
