Abstract

     According to the Qur'anic verses and Islamic tradition, guest hospitality means revering, respecting and glorifying the person who enters the house of someone else. Looking deeply at spatial structure of traditional houses in Iran, one can see reverence and honor to the guest in a tangible manner. This study examines the role of ethical thoughts in spatial structure of traditional house in Iran with an emphasis on reverence for Guest. Its purpose is to analyze different aspects of reverence for guest in spatial structure of these houses. The method of the research is descriptive and analytical. In first step, the related concepts is extracted from books of Islamic scholars , thinkers and  Islamic verses and narrations by means of library study techniques, then, the role  of guest hospitality in spatial structure of traditional houses in Iran is discussed. The results show that, guest and guest hospitality are very important to Iranians. They take their patterns in constructing houses from Quranic verses and Islamic narrations. Guest hospitality also displays special aspects in the architecture of traditional houses in Iran. It can clearly be seen in different aspects of spatial structure including: awning, top of entrance door, porch, yard, living room and etc.
