Abstract
This paper elaborates on Heidegger’s paper entitled ‘Hegel and the Greeks’ on evaluation of the situation of the Greeks in Hegel’s thought. In this discussion, we examine Heidegger’s views about problems such as philosophy of history, the meaning of truth for Hegel, the reflection of philosophy of Greeks in Hegel’s philosophy, and Heidegger’s reasons about a lack of proper understanding of the meaning of ‘truth’ as ‘Aletheia’ for Hegel. We then refer to the perspectives of several commentators about Heidegger’s arguments. From Heidegger’s point of view, the meaning of truth in Hegel’s thought is surly ‘the absolute certainty’ of consciousness of ‘absolute subject’, while for Heidegger the meaning of truth as ‘Aletheia’ remains the worthiest issue for thinking and the meaning of truth as certainty is derived from that. Finally, the paper concludes that some of Heidegger’s points of view about Hegel are critical and in their philosophical systems, i.e., in Hegel’s dialectical system and in Heidegger’s argument about time and temporality, there are some significant implications about the question of human freedom.
